A Sad Start to My Day

I just got home from PTA so to say it has been a long day would be an understatement.  Okay, so those of you who are frequent visitors to my blog have probably guessed that I'm borderline out of control freaskishly  slightly obsessed with dogs.  Not only do I love my dog Gizmo, but I love all dogs in general.  This year, my husband and I keep seeing these random dogs out and about.  The first one we saw was near a local high school back in February.  The dog was really malnourished and we called Animal Control and left a message.  In other words, we didn't do enough.  Looking back, we should have done more.

Next animal we see is in our travels to Georgia this summer.  We were on his way to his grandparents house and we saw this little dog.  We were actually stopped at a railroad track and the dog was literally running towards the tracks.  It reminds me of that show "What Would You Do?"  The dog did NOT get hit and we continued on our way.  As we continued driving, we really felt bad, like we should have done more.  We should have stopped and at least given it water.

This past Saturday, we were driving down a road near our house and saw a dog running on the side of the road.  We turned around and saw him, but by the time we parked and got out, he had disappeared.  We should've turned around sooner, but we knew we were getting closer to "doing the right thing."

This morning, I was on my way to work around 6:10 and I was stopped at a very busy 6 lane highway.  Luckily, it was early in the morning.  As the light turns green, I notice these two dogs IN THE ROAD.  I pulled over and didn't really know what to do.  Who do I call this early?  I eventually decided to dial 911.  I told them my location and what was happenening.  The dogs were heading towards the interstate so this was bad news.  I told her I would try to follow the dogs and she said dispatch would be on it's way and to call if anything happened.  So I follow the dogs who thankfully head away from the interstate.  I'm sitting in the median, when all of a sudden, they run out into 3 lanes of traffic.  I felt like the Matrix.  Slow motion...what can I do?  Y'all...a car in the left lane slammed on brakes and luckily didn't hit them.  A car in the middle lane, slowed down I guess, and hit the smaller dog.  I could hear the yelps from in my car.  It was TERRIBLE.  I finally get out of my shock and call 911 back to tell her one of the dogs was hit.  The dog managed to make it to the side of the road and he just laid there.  He was alive, and would look around, but would not more.  I stayed with him on the side of the road until a cop came.  Of course after I got off the phone with 911, I called my hubby balling telling him I just saw a dog got hit.  I don't know what happened to the other one.

It was awful my friends.  All day today was like this Brady Bunch episode.  I remember that "Oh My Nose" scene repeating over and over in Marcia's head.  That's what it was like for me.  It was terrible.

I'm getting better at doing the right thing.  What is the universe trying to tell me?!  So that was my day.  How was your day?  Only 8 more days until Christmas Break!

Oh, that's so sad!!!! :( I would have been bawling, too! My hubby and I are always picking up stray dogs, bringing them home, calling on the tags, etc. Our dog(s) (we used to have two but sadly, not anymore but let's not even talk about THAT) would get so annoyed.
It was so nice of you to stay with the dog. SO NICE.

Thanks ladies! Kristen, I'm pretty sure my dog would not be too pleased if I brought home another dog, lol. You both are so kind :)

I'm soooo sorry! You're in my prayers. I was on my way to work last year and a dog stepped into my path suddenly. A car was coming in the other direction and I could not stop. I HIT and KILLED it. I stopped and told the people at the house where I was...the little guy said, "Don't let it ruin your day. He was 10 years old and blind." That made it worse because our oldest dog was 10! I cried all day long at school with my second graders! They were so sweet when I finally told them at the end of the day that a dog stepped out in front of me that morning. I am sorry you had such a rough day. :*(

Oh gosh, I can't imagine! I was lucky to be able to hold it together at work, but I'm sure I would have been as upset as you! I am a new follower of your blog! Thanks for the support :)
